Oncostatin M (OSM) is a glycoprotein belonging to the interleukin-6 family of cytokines that includes leukemia-inhibitory factor, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, and interleukin 6. OSM encodes a growth regulator, which Inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines. It stimulates proliferation of AIDS-KS cells. OSM regulates cytokine production, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF from endothelial cells. OSM is considered as a pleiotropic cytokine that initiates its biological activities through specific cell surface receptors. The low affinity LIF receptor that shares the similarity of containing protein gp130 has now been identified to be a component of a high- affinity OSM receptor that will transduce OSM signals. OSM has also been shown to play a role in both pro and anti-inflammatory actions. OSM may also be involved in many biometabolism processes including liver development, haematopoeisis, inflammation, bone formation and destruction and possibly CNS development.

Acts as a CD40 functional homolog to prevent apoptosis of infected B-lymphocytes and drive their proliferation. Functions as a constitutively active tumor necrosis factor receptor that induces the activation of several signaling pathways, including those of the NF-kappa-B family. LMP1 signaling leads to up-regulation of antiapoptotic proteins and provide growth signals in latently infected cells. Interacts with host UBE2I and subsequently affects the sumoylation state of several cellular proteins. For example, induces the sumoylation of host IRF7 thereby limiting its transcriptional activity and modulating the activation of innate immune responses. Inhibits also host IFN-alpha-stimulated STAT2 nuclear translocation and interferon-stimulated response element transcriptional activity by interacting with and inhibiting host TYK2.
Flagellin is the major structural protein monomer of bacterial flagella. Flagellin through binding to its receptor and activation of antigen presenting cells stimulates the innate and adaptive immune responses. Flagellin is used as an effective systemic or mucosal adjuvant to stimulate the immune system. Flagellin is an agonist of Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5), a pattern recognition receptor (PRR) of the innate immune system expressed on the basolateral surface of intestinal epithelial cells and on the surface of a subset of intestinal dendritic cells. Flagellin is delivered into the cytosol of macrophages by the T3SS-1 of serotype Typhimurium, where it activates the cytosolic interleukin-1 (IL-1) converting enzyme-protease activating factor (IPAF), a nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain-like receptor (NLR) of the innate immunesystem. Recognition of flagellin by IPAF leads to activation of the inflammasome, followed by proteolytic activation of IL-1 and IL-18.
Stem Cell Factor (SCF) is a hematopoietic growth factor that exerts its activity at the early stages of hematopoiesis. SCF stimulates the proliferation of myeloid, erythroid, and lymphoid progenitors in bone marrow cultures and has been shown to act synergistically with colony stimulating factors.

Attaches the virus to host cellular receptor, inducing endocytosis of the virion. In the endosome, the acidic pH induces conformational changes in the glycoprotein trimer, which trigger fusion between virus and cell membrane. There is convincing in vitro evidence that the muscular form of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), the neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), and the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR) bind glycoprotein and thereby facilitate rabies virus entry into cells. Plays a key role in the activation of the host resting B-cell and stimulation of B-cell proliferation. Acts by up-regulating the expression of viral EBNA1-6, LMP1, LMP2A and LMP2B genes, as well as several host genes including CD21, CD23 and MYC. Activates transcription by acting as an adapter molecule that binds to cellular sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins such as host CBF1, SMARCB1 and SPI1. Once EBNA2 is near promoter sites, its acidic activating domain recruits basal and activation-associated transcription factors TFIIB, TAF40, TFIIH components ERCC2 and ERCC3, and CBP in order to promote transcription. Alternatively, EBNA2 can affect activities of cell cycle regulators and retard cell cycle progression at G2 M phase. It also induces chromosomal instability, by disrupting mitotic checkpoints, multi-nucleation and formation of micronuclei in infected cells.
Plays an essential role in the initiation of viral DNA synthesis. Binds specifically to an inverted terminal repeat element (ITR) on the 3' and 5' ends of the viral DNA, where it cleaves a site specifically to generate a priming site for initiation of the synthesis of a complementary strand. Plays also a role as transcriptional regulator, DNA helicase and as key factors in site-specific integration of the viral genome. Regulates host PKA activity by interacting with host PRKX as a mechanism of interfering with helper virus propagation and promoting its own replication. Inhibits the host cell cycle G1 S, S and G2 M transitions. These arrests may provide essential cellular factors for viral DNA replication.
