Glutaminyl Cyclase (QC) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of N-terminal glutamine (Gln) or glutamic acid (Glu) residues into pyroglutamate (pGlu) through cyclization. This modification enhances the stability and bioactivity of proteins and peptides. QC plays a critical role in the formation of pyroglutamate-modified amyloid-β (pGlu-Aβ), which is implicated in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. It is considered a potential therapeutic target for diseases involving pGlu-modified peptides.
