研究背景 | MB (Myoglobin) is a Protein Coding gene. The MB gene, located on 22q12.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, and zebrafish. Myoglobin is an important intracellular oxygen-binding hemoprotein found in the cytoplasm of skeletal and cardiac muscle tissue playing a well-known role in O(2) storage and delivery. This gene encodes a member of the globin superfamily and is predominantly expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscles. The encoded protein forms a monomeric globular haemoprotein that is primarily responsible for the storage and facilitated the transfer of oxygen from the cell membrane to the mitochondria. This protein also plays a role in regulating physiological levels of nitric oxide. Diseases associated with MB include Compartment Syndrome and Medullomyoblastoma. |
